In 2004, the Kuss Middle School became the first school to be declared "chronically under-performing" by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 2006, the school joined the MA Expanded Learning Time Initiative, adding 300 hours - and new opportunities for students and teachers - to its school year. A decade later, leveraging significantly more time to improve instruction and deepen student engagement, Kuss has now achieved the state's highest accountability rating. This updated case study tells their story.
